I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but it's too late to rectify our abuses of Mother Earth. There are simply too many humans. Humans are flawed by nature. Unless you can wipe greed and self-importance out of the human ego, which even Jesus Himself was unable to do, our doom is sealed.
Earth will look very different 200 years from now. Don't ask me how I know this. I just do. Besides, if I told you, you would just want to argue with me. Will our values adjust? Somewhat. Our extreme weather is just the beginning of what scientists have warned us about for decades. Still, governments are still clinging onto the notion that fossil fuels are somehow "good" as they provide jobs, which provides payroll tax revenue, which provides property tax revenue, etc.
As long as MONEY is the base of our existence, nothing will help. Money makes the world go around - until it doesn't.
We have all been warned. Still, we want more and more money, bigger houses, fancier cars, more trips to Africa to observe the natives like they are zoo animals and pretend to live like them - until we realize there is no running water nor a Starbucks nearby.
