Literally. SFO is a shit show. Oakland is a shit show as well. Homeless people panhandle, crap in the streets, shoot up, whatever. Organized groups smash and grab at stores. Forget about parking your car. Your windows will be smashed in and whatever they can steal they will.
All of the over-the-top bleeding heart liberal idiots who think the world can be saved with milk, hugs and warm cookies living in their privileged liberal arts college campus fantasy land are getting exactly what they asked for with making the police out to be villains.
The police can't win. They are damned if they do their jobs, and they are damned if they don't. Of course cops are leaving the force in droves. Unless you have direct experience in law enforcement, I suggest you STFU and hold your armchair quarterback opinions to yourself on how awful cops are. You are more than welcome to put your life on the line every time you go to work never knowing if a routine traffic stop will blow your head off.
Like it or not, the police are the only thing that is between some semblance of civilization and utter chaos and lawlessness.
