Scholarships for Wealthy People's Kids

I work with some incredibly wealthy people.  While I'm not exactly privy to their piles of gold, it never ceases to amaze me how the richer people are the stingier they are.  I suppose that's why they have the piles of gold they have.  Mind you, most of these people inherited what they have and I don't think any of them are self-made, but they prance around like they are holier than thou.  They all belong to the LSC (Lucky Sperm Club).  Yes, they were born with the proverbial silver spoon in mouth.  I'd like to shove it up another body orifice.

I deal with San Mateo County.  It's one of the wealthiest areas in the country.  The kids are at an age where they are all going off to college.  We do a scholarship for these kids.  Why?  I don't know.  They were given new sports cars at age 16.  They have horses and the properties to ride them.  They 'do Europe' for months at a time on daddy's dime.  Now they are coming to me for scholarships?  Gag.

Why am I so bitter?  If it were up to me, I would want these scholarships going to somebody who does not have a rich parent to send them to college.  Not everybody was born into the LSC.  It pains me to write checks to kids who already have a pile of money.  Here's the kicker -- I'd say about 1/8 never even cash them.  They don't know how closely I track the money and I can tell when a check has been negotiated by the bank.  Imagine that for a moment -- to have so much money that when they receive a check (it's not chump change I'm talking about) they don't even bother to cash it.  Why do they even bother to apply for a scholarship?
