Don't SF our Sonoma County

People are fleeing SF and the Greater Bay Area by the droves and moving to Sonoma County for our quiet and clean towns.  The problem is that they bring their crap with them.  They bring the same ideals and politics that caused them to flee.  Sonoma County is turning into an enclave of relocated liberals that trashed SF and now want to move here because they can't stand what they created.  However, they have not figured that out.

Business Lessons

My daughter has opened up her online business.  I invested the initial capital to get her going - which was not cheap, but nothing outrageous.  She has a flair for presentation and photography and put together her online shop with artistic perfection.

Then she waited.

At first there were no orders and she was getting discouraged.  Now she's bombarded and she can't keep up.  She quickly realized that it's more than just putting together her product to running a business.  She has to track her inventory, the expenses for the inventory, the cost of producing the product, the cost of shipping, and....at the end of it all what is the net profit?

It did not take her long to figure out that she's working extremely hard for basically nothing and she has to raise her prices, which she did.  She is also learning to deal with customers who are trying to get something for nothing.

Now that the orders are coming in she's adjusted her prices, she's seeing the money come in as well.  She gets to set her own hours, but as a business owner she found out that you work 7 days a week and be hands on to keep things flowing.

Of course I'm helping her out as is her father to keep up.  It's fun to watch her business grow.  I almost gave up my office downtown as working from home will continue for society.  I'm glad I did not give up my office as now it's become her production line and shipping warehouse.  There's no way we would have been able to fit everything in the garage or a spare bedroom.  We might even have to rent more space. In my building there are several empty offices and they are begging for tenants that actually pay the rent.

Close Everythig Down - No, Open Everything Up

The information we get regarding COVID is head spinning.  It's contradictory and confusing.  After telling us to hole up in our homes and fear the grocery store, they are now saying that it's safe to open schools.  What makes it even more confusing is that the majority of the population is not immunized (and there's controversy over the effectiveness of the vaccine) but suddenly we can put kids in the human petri dish called a classroom and COVID will not spread.

Huh?

I did not realize the COVID virus could discriminate between the classroom and the grocery store, or any other public place for that matter - all of which are legally required to adhere to COVID prevention protocol.  I'm no epidemiologist, but does anybody really know what's going on?

I think the bigger issue is that human activity is the root cause of global warming and telling us that an awful virus will come and get us is the only way to make everybody stay home and travel less.  It's later than we think we global warming, and if we knew the truth we would all panic.  This is the tip of the iceberg, people, as the tip of the iceberg is all that's left because it's melted.

That's my conspiracy theory du jour.  Don't read my blog if you don't like it.

The Bachelor for 50+

I've mentioned that my daughter and I watch The Bachelor for brainless entertainment.  All of the contestants are in their 20's.  For whatever reason, they all seem to think that landing the bachelor will guarantee them to live life happily ever after.  They have no clue what they are getting themselves into and reality will come up and slap them in the face.  I think the networks could make an equally successful  TV show off the same concept, but make it for people aged 50+.  It would go a little something like this.

At age 50+ we've all been around the block a few times.  The women would be more hesitant to even want to be on the show as committing to a man they hardly know would be a nightmare in the making.  The show could play off of that.  Instead of the women sitting around fighting and plotting how to snag the man, they would all sit around and beg each other to take him as they really don't want to have to end up with him - ending up with him means somebody else they have to take care of and clean up after.

The conversations between the women would be something like, "He leaves his socks inside out and the cap off the toothpaste PLUS he NEVER puts the toilet seat down."

"All he does at night is smoke pot and watch porn on the computer.  Then he gets all horny with the munchies and expects me make him something to eat and then have sex with him.  I might as well be a blow up doll that can cook."

"He is unorganized and careless with his finances.  He will tell you that everything is fine, but you're in debt up to your eyeballs."

"Carol, we think you would be the best match for Fred."

"Oh no, I am not compatible with Fred.  Glenda, I think you would be a perfect match for Fred."

"Noooooooooo, Fred snores and never replaces the toilet paper roll when it's empty.  Plus, he's a complete slob.  That would trigger anxiety in me from deep seated childhood trauma.  Debbie, I think you would be the perfect match for Fred."

"No way.  When he shaves he leaves his beard all over the sink.  Not only does he leave the toilet seat up when he pees, he dribbles on the bowl.  Also, he is self-centered and narcissistic.  That's the bigger issue.  Plus, I caught him in lies about having an affair after telling me how much he loves me and would never hurt me."

At the end of the show if the bachelor can attract one of the women he will be successful.

Richard Lester: Dick Less

OK....years ago when I worked at Charles Schwab in San Francisco a co-worker and I would look up client names like:  Barb Dwyer,  Harry Rektum, Dick Grosball, Char Burger.  Anyway, our favorite was Richard Lester.  Well, I'm glad Dick Less is doing well as a real estate agent.  We love you,  Dick.  Sorry that we find your name amusing.  Don't feel too badly, you could have been named Dick Grosball.

Superebowl Halftime Show

I know, I know.... I'm old and my time was in the 80's.  Still, I love watching the Superbowl commercials and the halftime show.  Here's my take on this year's show:  What the hell was up with the dancing zombies wearing jock straps on their heads?

BEV-MO!

For everybody who is embarrassed to shop for liquor at the grocery store or local liquor store, BEV-MO! has something for you:  Delivery and curbside pickup.  I kid you not.  I just became aware of this option today despite having a BEV-MO! store in town for a few years now.  I guess I have not crossed the line to hard-core alcoholism yet.  All kidding aside, curbside pickup is great as it limits time in public spaces which can be a spreader of COVID.  I'm trying curbside pick up today for the first time - there is no extra charge for it.  I'm not sure how delivery works, and I'm not sure what the delivery charge is or even if there is one.   My guess is that there's a delivery fee as it takes time, effort, and gas to drive it to your door.

CHEERS!!!
